How I Designed This Site

 NOTES :
The site was designed with more than the required # of pages. There are a total of 9. There is an introductionary first page welcoming the shopper. While this was not asked for, the page is typical of many current commercial / retail web sites. There is no return link for a page of this type.

Further, the addition of the 2 extra pages "order" and "service" would certainly be necessary in an actual retail situation. The ORDER page is obviously the page where the ordering information is contained. The information shown here is an exact duplication of all articles for sale. All personal & credit card information would be indicated here. This retail outlet is not sophisticated enough at this time to offer a shopping cart system for purchases.

The SERVICE page is meant to act as a supplement to the ordering page, by providing the location for answers to frequently asked questions which the purchaser may have during the ordering process. I believe a page such as this is also very typical of most good retail locations on the internet. It helps to instill a level of trust between the purchaser and store.

It was decided early on, that if this was a true retail store, and the company wanted to be successful in todays internet market, that the purchase of a .COM address would be necessary. On the assumption that this did in fact take place, a search was conducted to see if the desired name was taken. It was found to be available, and therefore the internet address for the company, after purchase, is www.toysnmore.com . . .

Since the real life purchase of such an address is not possible, soley for the purpose of this project, I ask that you "pretend" the http://home.golden.net/~tmb/store/toysnmore.htm link given to get to this site .. be considered as www.toysnmore.com.

Other than the initial supplied images for the dolls, games, and sporting items, all other images including thumnails and logo's were created by myself using the graphics program Paint Shop Pro 5.

Careful attention was made to graphic sizes - including the use of thumbnails - in an effort to obtain minimal document weight. This optimizing I felt was necessary for quick downloading of the content. The optimizing process was conducted on the basis that the visitors all had modems capable of only 28,800 bps speeds. All pages load - including images, under 12 seconds.

The META tag information given includes an indication of the document type. This was further information which the search engines would use to indicate the HTML standard and language for the site.

Millions of new web pages from new sites are added to search engine data bases monthly. The internet is a very dynamic place. I included then a "RETURN" instruction for a 30 day period so that the NEWER INFORMATION found here would get indexed. The site under real world conditions would contain dynamic (constantly changing) content, so to ensure the site not get buried in search engine data bases, the RETURN tag was included.

And, in reference to search engines, a COMMENT inclusion was made for all the search engines that do not use the META tag when indexing.

Final notes, the index found at the top of all pages, is not an exact copy of the links found down the left side. Note, that the most important link information found in the left column is visible without having to scroll. Pages containing images, with the exception of the games page, load into view also without having to scroll. The logo found at the top left corner of each page provides a link back to the main menu.

Thank You !
